A quiet summer? Maybe. But greater things are in the works!!

For those that check the YoGO announcements, you haven't seen much posted in a while. Part of that is due to not much going on and part due to laziness on my part. Sorry about that!! Well, since the 10 year event, there hasn't been a lot until about 4 weeks ago. There was a dinner gathering at C&S 143's house where a few people were invited as representatives from geocaching groups around the Carolinas to discuss putting on a big event. Just before that dinner happened, Harwell5 from the GCGC/NCGO brought up that there was a public bid process opened for Geocoinfest 2011. At the dinner, it was decided to put our collective efforts into putting together a bid for this event.

Now if you are not familiar with Geocoinfest 2011, it is classified as a MegaEvent with a focus on geocoins. Geocoinfest 2010 takes place in Minneapolis on September 19th. Check out http://www.geocoinfest2010.com/ for more information on this years' event.

As I mentioned, YoGO has teamed up with representatives from other area groups including the following:

Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club (GCGC)

North Carolina Geocaching Organization (NCGO)

Upstate South Carolina Geocaching Association (USCGA)

Band of Cachers

This collective group is known as the Carolina Cachers Consortium. We are currently working on the bid. We are putting together a short video showcasing some of the area attractions and facilities that make this area a great location to host the event.

The bid has to be submitted by August 31. A committee will go over all bids and make a decision to be announced at this year's event on September 19th. We believe we have a great bid and hope to bring this exciting event to the area next year!
